It took three overtimes, but Ganado is now a Texas high school football champ. Thursday, at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, the Indians beat Stamford 30-28 for the Class 2A Division I state title.

Ganado had a chance to win it in regulation, but a missed 22-yard field goal attempt sent the game into overtime tied at 21-21.

After both teams scored in the first OT, the Ganado defense stopped Stamford on downs in the second overtime. The Indians had another opportunity to win it with a 42-yard FG, but once again, the attempt was no good.

In the third overtime, when teams have to attempt two-point conversions, Ganado scored first. On Stamford’s try, the Indians sealed the victory with an interception.

The three overtimes tie the record for the longest Texas high school football championship game.
