David Beaty is returning to Texas high school football after nearly twenty years in the college game, including four as the head coach at Kansas University. Tuesday, Denton High School announced that it was hiring Beaty as its new head football coach.

After leaving as the head coach at Irving MacArthur in 2005, Beaty began a college journey that took him to jobs at Rice, Texas A&M, Texas and most-recently at Florida Atlantic. He led Kansas from 2015 to 2018, leading the Jayhawks to a 6-42 record.

In 2022, Beaty was the co-offensive coordinator and receivers coach with the Houston Gamblers in the now-defunct USFL.

“My family and I are honored to be at Denton High School,” said Beaty via press release. “This is an unbelievable school district. I am blown away by the quality of people here, and it is the people in an organization that make a place special. We are ready to roll up our sleeves and get going.”

“Coach Beaty is an incredible coach with a long history of success in both high school and college,” said Denton ISD athletic director Joey Florence in that same news release. “His ability to connect with students and families will be an incredible asset. We are very excited to have him lead the athletic program at Denton High School.”

In addition to the head coaching job at Irving MacArthur, Beaty was the head coach at North Dallas in 2001.

Beaty takes over for Billy Miller, who led the program over the past eight seasons. His record with the Broncos was 21-60 with just one playoff victory. The school hasn’t had a postseason win since 2015.
