America’s premiere high school football all-star game, the Big 33 Classic, needed two overtimes before a winner was decided in Hershey, Pennsylvania Saturday.
Reggie White, Jr. of Milford Mill High School caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Antwaine Carter of Westlake High on the first play of the second overtime to lead the Maryland All-Stars to a 31-24 victory over the Pennsylvania All-Stars at Hershey Park Stadium. It was the first time in the 57 year history of the Big 33 Classic that a game needed overtime.
Maryland raced-out to a 24-0 halftime lead, but Pennsylvania’s defense pitched a shutout in the second half, while the offense put 24 points on the board. Neither team was able to score in the first overtime.
After White’s overtime TD grab, Rasheed Gillis of Northwest High School came-up with an interception to seal the victory, which was Maryland’s third in ten games and its first since 1991 against Pennsylvania. It was the second straight year that Pennsylvania squared-off with Maryland in Hershey.
After a two decade hiatus, the Pennsylvania versus Maryland format returned with the Keystone State dominating Maryland in a 58-27 victory . The Big 33 Classic is best known as the only high school football all-star game that has had an alum play in every Super Bowl.
Maryland-bound Josh Woods, who had two interceptions in the game, was the Maryland MVP, while Fordham-bound Chase Edmonds of Central Dauphin East was named Pennsylvania’s MVP.
