The University Interscholastic League rejected a proposal to create a mercy rule for 11-man football in the Lone Star State. The UIL’s Standing Committee on Athletics reportedly “breezed” over the issue without much discussion, according to Corbett Smith of The Dallas Morning News.
Many called the mercy rule the Aledo Rule, because Aledo, which set a national, single-season scoring record, was called-out by a Western Hills parent for its 91-0 win over his son’s team in 2013.
6-man football has a mercy rule that ends a game when one team gets ahead by 45 points by halftime.
