2013 was a special year for Mallard Creek, winning North Carolina’s Class 4AA state title, the first for the school.  The perfect 16-0 season led to the Mavericks to a #15 ranking in High School Football America’s final 2013 Top 25.

This year, Mallard Creek looks to defend its title with six starters returning from last year’s championship team.  The Mavericks will have to replace players like running back Lawrence Pittman and tight end Jaylen Samuels, who combined for 75 touchdowns last season when Mallard Creek outscored its opponents 816-161.  Samuels is now at N.C. State, while Pittman is at Wingate University.

The Charlotte Observer reports that this year, the Mavericks are reloading with more than 20 college recruits on the roster.

Mallard Creek opens the season ranked #9 in the USA Today Preseason Super 25 with it’s season opener set for August 21st against Charlotte Christian.
