The El Dorado Sheriff’s Department in northern California is investigating the circumstances surround two Union Mine High School teammates, who suffered brain injuries in a JV football game last Friday.
Multiple media outlets are reporting that Nick Brown and Justin Schwartz both collapsed after their game against Foothill. Both players lost consciousness and were rushed to nearby hospitals. Schwartz was treated for a concussion and has been released. Brown remains in critical condition after undergoing emergency brain surgery.
The Sacramento Bee is reporting that the Sheriff’s Office is investigating whether the prescription drug Adderall, which is used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), may have played a role in the players injuries.
On Monday, the newspaper reported that a 17-year old Union Mine student was arrested and charged with possession and distribution of narcotics, speciifically Adderall.
