The odds were against #13 St. Thomas Aquinas coming into Saturday’s game against Miramar.
First, the Raiders (2-1) were without their starting quarterback and three defensive players. Then there was the fact that the Raiders were probably still recovering from last week’s 24-7 manhandling by New Jersey’s Don Bosco Prep. Third, Miramar (2-2) brought a three-game win streak against the Raiders into the game. Finally, on the field, the Raiders trailed 12-7 with eight minutes to go in to game.
However, none of that matter as the Raiders scored 13 unanswered point down the stretch to win 20-12.
Junior Blake Dever started at quarterback in place of injured Jake Rizzo, which led to the Raiders using a conservative offensive attack. Dever only threw three passes in the game.
Miramar has now blown second half leads twice this year. Against Plantation’s American Heritage, Miramar lost a 16 point lead in a 30-26 loss.
The game winning touchdown was set-up by one of two blocked punts that the Raiders recorded on the night. In three games, St. Thomas Aquinas has blocked three punts.
