After an 0-3 start against an incredibly tough schedule, the Serra Cavaliers are back to the .500 mark after a 41-30 win over Loyola Friday night in Mission League play. The Cavaliers, who are ranked #16 in the latest High School Football America Southern California Top 25, were led by quarterback Jalani Eason, who threw for three touchdowns and ran for two.
According to the Daily Breeze, Eason was 17-for-25 for 364 yards. Eason rushed for 68 yards on 10 carries.
Serra goes into its bye week with a 2-0 league mark, tied atop the league with Alemany.

Also in the Mission League Friday night, #10 Bishop Amat bounced back from last week’s last second loss to Loyola. The Lancers beat Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) 17-14 to improve to 1-1 in league play when Shazel Sakr booted a 22-yard field goal with five seconds left in the game. Bishop Amat trailed ND (3-3, 0-2 Mission League) 14-0 at the half.
In the only Top 25 battle this weekend, #20 Calabasas fought back from a 21-16 halftime deficit to beat #25 Valencia 37-21. Nebraska-bound quarterback Tristan Gebbia threw three TDs and rushed for one as the Coyotes improved to 6-0.
#4 Mission Viejo will take a perfect 6-0 record into the start of South Coast League play next week. The Diablos, who are ranked #43 nationally, won their 34th straight game with a 55-14 win over El Toro. According to OCVarsity.com, quarterback Matt McDonald and wide receiver Austin Osborne were clicking all night. The two hooked-up six times for 222 yards and five touchdowns. McDonald has seven TD passes in the victory.
Mission Viejo will open league play against Tesoro next week. Friday night, #24 Tesoro lost to Notre Dame (Riverside). According to OCVarsity.com, the Titans hurt themselves with seven turnovers, including three interceptions.
The third SoCal Top 25 team to lose Friday night was St. Bonaventure (4-2). The Seraphs lost to Paraclete (3-3) 22-21 on a TD and two-point conversion with :59 seconds to play in the game.
#5 Narbonne (5-0) had a close call Friday night. The Gauchos beat Los Angeles (4-1) 13-6 in a battle of unbeatens. Jalen Chatman found Tyrone Marshall in the end zone for the game winner. According to the Daily Breeze, the TD pass came on a 4th down at the L.A. 26-yard line.

#12 La Mirada (4-2, 2-0 Suburban League) continues to rip it way through the Suburban League. After playing one of the toughest non-league schedules in the nation, the Matadores won their second straight league game Friday night, beating Norwalk 62-0. It was LM’s second straight 62-0 victory. They’ve now outscored Suburban League foes 124-0.

#14 Long Beach Poly ripped Long Beach Cabrillo 77-0. The Jackrabbits are now 3-2 and 2-0 in Moore League play.
#17 Oaks Christian (4-2) beat University 49-0. The shutout was good news for Lions fans, who have watched the defense allow 250 points in the first five games of the season.
