Hawkins High kicker Brandon Sanchez kicked a 27-yard field goal on the last play of the game, giving the Hawks a heart-stopping 24-21 win over Dorsey (4-3) in Coliseum League play Thursday night. The game was made even more electric several FBS coaches like Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh and USC coach Clay Helton on the sidelines due to the large amount of Division I talent on the field.
Hawkins (7-0) running back Greg Johnson, who has given his verbal to Arizona, is ranked as the 18th best college football prospect from California by 247Sports. Hawks wide receiver Joseph Lewis is ranked as the seventh-best college football prospect in California, while fellow wideout Jalen Hall is the overall #1 prospect in the Class of 2018.
The win Thursday night, puts Hawkins on-top of the Coliseum League standings with a 2-0 record, while Dorsey falls to 1-1 in league play. Next week, Hawkins will play Los Angeles (0-1 Coliseum), while Crenshaw (1-0 Coliseum) faces Dorsey at the Los Angeles Coliseum. Hawkins will play at Crenshaw on October 28th.
