Alabama-recruit Tua Tagovailoa ran for a touchdown and threw for another as #2 St. Louis beat #1 Kahuku 30-14 for the first-ever Hawaii Open Division high school football state championship. In addition to winning his first-ever state title, Tagovailoa’s broke Timmy Chang‘s record for career passing yards. He finishes his career with 8,618 yards with 64 touchdowns.
The championship was the fourth overall for St. Louis, which finishes 10-1 overall. Kahuku, which closes 2016 with an 11-2 overall mark, was looking for its second straight state title.
