South Bend Washington receiver Gehrig Dieter has a season’s worth of statistics in just three games, plus a national record.
Friday night, Dieter caught 12 passes for 437 yards to break the national record for receiving yards in a game. The old record was 421 yards by J.D. Felice of Rose Bud, Arkansas.
It’s the second time that Dieter has broken a record this year. In the season opener, he had 373 yards that set a new Indiana mark, which he broke again last night. In the second game of the season, the Panther senior hauled-in 346 yards.
So, through three games, Dieter has 1,156 yards receiving. He’s almost halfway to the all-time national season record of 2,427 yards set by Cody Cardwell of Stephenville High School in Texas in 1998.
And, by the way, Washington improved to 3-0 with a 63-10 win over Elkhart Central.
