For the first time during the regular season, Texas powers Euless Trinity and Southlake Carroll will square-off tonight.
At stake there’s first place in District 7-6A and then there’s our national rankings. Southlake Carroll is ranked #14 in the latest High School Football America Top 25, while Euless Trinity is #17. Both teams, who were moved into the same district by the University Interscholastic League during its annual two-year realignment in February, are undefeated with Trinity at 7-0 and Southlake Carroll at 6-0.
For those of your not familiar with geography in Texas, the two schools are only about 15 minutes apart.
This will be the first regular season match-up between the Texas heavyweights, but not the first-ever match-up. The two have met three times in the postseason with Southlake Carroll winning two of the three.
The last time they met was last November in the third round of the playoffs when Trinity won a shootout 42-38. They also met in 2012 with the Dragons winning 16-7. The third match-up was back in 2006 when SC won 22-21. Between the two, the schools have won eight Texas high school football championships in the last 12 years.
It’s the first time that the two have met as undefeated teams since the 2006 game nearly 50,000 fans watched the battle at the old Texas Stadium. You can watch those highlights above.
Coming into the game, Trinity has only given-up three points in its last three games. Southlake Carroll has had a balanced offensive attack with 1,354 yards passing and 1,498 rushing.
One interesting note is that Southlake Carroll’s defensive line coach Aaron Lineweaver is the son of Trinity head coach Steve Lineweaver.
