The 2014 Indiana high school football regular season comes to a close this weekend. Now it’s time for the Road to the Lucas Oil Dome for the state championships that will be played November 27th and 28th.
Defending 6A champ Warren Central, which spent several week’s in High School Football America’s Top 25, is hoping for a second shot at Carmel, which is currently ranked #19 in our latest poll. Carmel beat the Warriors two weeks ago 17-10 and the two are in opposite sides of the Class 6A bracket, which means we could have a repeat of 2013 when Carmel won the regular season battle and then lost to Warren Central 7-6 in the championship game.
Carmel (9-0) and Warren Central (7-2) have won 8 of the last 11 state championships in Indiana’s biggest classification. Warren Central has won six of them.
In 5A, Indianapolis Cathedral will be looking for its fifth straight state championship. After winning four straight 4A titles, last year the Fighting Irish moved-up to 5A to win #5.
Cathedral, which plays arguably the toughest schedule in the state, enters the tournament with a 3-5 record.
Bishop Chatard has won the most state titles with 12 coming into the 2014 tournament. Cathedral is tied with Bishop Luers for the second most with 11 titles.
