Don’t believe high school football is a big business? The Star Tribune is reporting that the 2016 Minnesota high school football championships brought in a record one million dollars last year thanks to higher ticket prices and free use of U.S. Bank Stadium, home of the state semifinals and finals.
While the exact amount of revenue won’t be known until the end of the Minnesota High School League’s fiscal year, the final take will be divided-up to schools with state tournament teams in all activities through the MHSL’s revenue-sharing plan.
The $1 million windfall comes after a huge decrease in revenue when the state championship games were moved outside to TCF Bank Stadium where in 2014, the football championships brought-in only $118,596, according to the Star Tribune story.
