And then there were six. The 2017 Hawaii high school football season comes down to six teams playing three state championship games next Saturday. And, those that have been dreaming of the Kahuku playing Saint Louis for the Open Division title have gotten their wish.

Friday night, Kahuku (11-1), ranked No. 75 in the High School Football America Top 100 national rankings, advanced to title game at Aloha Stadium with a 10-7 win over Wai’anae. The Red Raiders, who remain No. 1 in the latest High School Football America Hawaii Top 5, needed a Sol-Jay Maiava touchdown pass with 58 seconds to go in the game to advance to their third straight Open Division championship game.

Saint Louis (9-0), ranked No. 78 in our national rankings created with our proprietary algorithm, beat Mililani 47-23 by overcoming a 13-point second quarter deficit. Mitchell Quinn caught five touchdowns passes from Crusader QB Chevan Cordeiro.

On the night, Quinn caught eight passes for 307 yards.

Next week’s Open Division championship game will be the third straight between the two Hawaii-powers.  Saint Louis won last year’s title with a 30-14 victory.  Kahuku claimed the 2015 state title.

The game will decide which team is the best in the state and our rankings.

The Division I and II finals will also be played next week. In Division I Hilo faces Damien, while Lahainaluna squares-off Konawaena.

There are no changes from last week’s rankings.
