The Duval County Public School District that is located in-and-around the Jacksonville-area will start its varsity high school football games at 6 o’clock this year due to the latest violence at high school football games.
The 2018 high school football season opened with a triple shooting outside the gates of the Lee/Raines game. A shooting also occurred last month during the Ribault at Terry Parker spring game.
“For the 2019-20 school year, varsity football games will be scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday or the night scheduled. The exception to this is the three games that will be played on Saturdays. This update comes from discussions with school and district leadership on how we can enhance the safety of our football games for our students and our community. We will continue to discuss proactive safety measures and share updates.”

Duval County plays so top-notch football. Last year, Mandarin won the state’s 8A state title, finishing No. 50 in the High School Football America 100 national rankings. Raines won its second straight Class 4A title last season.
