The tragic shooting in El Paso two weeks ago that left 22 dead and 25 injured touched high school football on Thursday and Friday when Plano High School decided to cancel its September 6th game at El Paso’s Eastwood High.
On Thursday, Plano Independent School District officials released a statement cancelling the game.
“After consulting with local law enforcement agencies, Plano ISD administrators felt obligated to prioritize the safety of the participating players, students, families and communities, and have concluded that the timing of the game falls too soon after the tragedy in El Paso.”

However, on Friday, it was announced that the game was back on and would be played in Frisco, Texas at The Star at the Ford Center, the home of the NFL‘s Dallas Cowboys headquarters, on September 5th.
The decision to cancel the game was condemned by many. A Plano student even started a petition that received over 600 signatures in 24 hours.
As you can see in the tweet below, Eastwood head coach Julio Lopez is very excited that the game is back on.
