The 19 Chicago high school football teams that qualified for the Illinois High School Association high school football playoffs will be able to practice for the postseason, but are still waiting for the end of the Chicago teachers’ strike before knowing whether they’ll be able to play in the first round or have to forfeit the games.
IHSA rules state a team idled by a strike that lasts a week-or-more must practice for three days before it can compete. Right now, all CPS teams are scheduled to play Saturday, so holding their first practice Wednesday was a must, according to state rules.
