Dr. Byron Slack is the new head football coach at Hillgrove.
Slack has served as defensive coordinator on two of south Georgia’s top high school football programs — Lowndes and Camden County. For the last three years, Slack has led the Lowndes’ defense. The Vikings advanced to the 7A championship game where they lost to Marietta, finishing No. 16 in the High School Football America 100 national rankings and No. 2 in our Georgia Top 25.
This will be Slack’s first head coaching opportunity. He takes over for Phil Ironside, who resigned to take the head coaching job at Worth County.
Last season, Hillgrove finished No. 17 in our Georgia Top 25 with a 7-4 record. The Hawks spent the first half of the season in the High School Football America 100 after starting the year at No. 72 in the preseason national rankings.
