Alta will go after its first Utah high school football championship since 1988 when it plays Layton Friday afteroon for the state’s 5-A title. Layton on the other hand hasn’t captured state gold in football since 1978.

Alta is a big favorite, especially after finally beating defending state champ Bingham for the first time in five years last week in the state semifinals.
