The Ohio High School Football Coaches Association is being proactive on wanting to play the 2020 high school football season as scheduled. Tuesday, the OHSFCA released comprehensive recommendations covering multiple aspects of safety for the season.
The OHSFCA is proposing less contact, more isolation and daily sanitization to keep student-athletes healthy.
Below is list of some of the top priority recommendations:
- Symptom checklist for participants
- Equipment will be sanitized each day
- Hand sanitizer will be available on site
- CDC guidelines for all meetings and film sessions
- Athletes will have their own individual water container
- Players will report to practice at staggered times
- Students will be limited to 18 minutes of full contact per day
- Periods of no more than nine minutes in pods for practice
- A total of 80 yards of sideline space will be required this season
- Social distancing will be required on the sidelines by all players
- Halftime length shortened to 12 minutes (originally 20 minutes)
- Social distancing is required in locker rooms (assign lockers by group to allow for a rotation system)
- Social distancing guidelines in place for all bus trips (one athlete per seat, everyone on the bus is required to wear a mask)
- It’s recommended there be no handshaking after the game
- Scrimmages limited to two teams
