The University Interscholastic League is moving toward a full 2020 high school football season during the coronavirus pandemic, but Ben Bolt High School, about 60 miles outside of Corpus Christi, will not be taking part.

The Ben Bolt-Palito Blanco Independent School District has announced it’s suspending the sport until October 30. The Badgers, the first to announce they will not be playing during COVID-19, are a member of District 16-2A Division I. Class 2A is the smallest division in 11-man football.

Fall practice is currently underway for Class 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A schools. The regular season for those schools begins August 27.

Fall practice for the 6A and 5A schools, that are mainly in metro areas, will start September 7 with the regular season starting September 24-26.
