Four-time defending Louisiana state champ Edna Karr ran out to a 20-0 lead Wednesday night and then held-on for a 34-31 victory over Baton Rouge’s Catholic High in a showdown beaten two teams ranked in the High School Football America 100 national rankings. The game was moved from Thursday to Wednesday because of Hurricane Delta threatening the state.

Karr, ranked No. 3 in our latest Louisiana Top 10 and No. 48 nationally, was led by sophomore quarterback Anterious “A.J.” Samuel, who completed 17-of-30 passes for 329 yards with three TDs and two interceptions. Destyn Pazon caught seven of those passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns.

After trailing 20-10 at the half, Catholic battled back to take a 31-27 lead in the third quarter.

Karr’s 80-yard game-winning drive in the fourth quarter was capped when Kevin Marigny scored on a 12-yard run with 9:31 to play in regulation. Marigny ran for 141 yards on 24 carries.
