Blackman Blaze footballThe Daily News Journal has confirmed that Rutherford County detectives are investigating the handling of funds by the Blackman High School football team and it’s booster program.

The investigation comes a couple of weeks after head coach Phillip Shadowens resigned over what he called differences with the school’s principal.  Blackman booster club president Wayne Armstrong has stated in earlier media reports that Shadowens was asked to resign because of the investigation.

Shadowens owns an overall head coaching record of 178-78.  In 2013, he led the school to its first-ever appearance in the state semifinals.
