Miramar Patriots footballThe Sun-Sentinel reports that an audit into the Miramar High School athletics program shows that over $39,000 was misappropriated in 2013 and 2014.

Last November, Miramar school officials self-reported the football program to the Florida High School Athletic Association and withdrew the team from the playoffs while it investigated the alleged fixing of grades for three student-athletes.  Head coach Matt Stroudt was also removed from his position when he admitted that he gave cash to players.

The Sun-Sentinel story states…

“Strout, who was forced out in late October, said he rewarded players for good plays and good grades and handed out cash for food, spending money and even a gift for a player’s girlfriend.”

“The audit found then-principal Brian Faso directed the misappropriation of funds at Miramar. The athletics account “had been operating in the red” for two years, the audit reported.”

“In 2013, Faso had the school’s bookkeeper shift $16,723 to prevent Miramar athletics from ending the school year in debt, according to the audit. In 2014, Faso directed the transfer of $22,624 to sports.”
