After one year and a “mythical” national championship to his name, Bobby Acosta is leaving IMG Academy in Florida for Texas. Friday night, Acosta was named the new head coach at Del Valle High School in Texas.
“Coach Acosta has enthusiasm, drive, and the passion for developing students on the field and supporting them in the classroom,” said Del Valley Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Annette Tielle in a news release. “He has a history of coaching highly successful teams, and we are fortunate to have a football leader of his caliber join the Del Valle family.”

Last season, Acosta led IMG to a perfect 8-0 season that was dramatically impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. The Ascenders beat four teams that finished in the High School Football America 100 national rankings powered by BlackMP Living Water.

“I knew I found my new home after meeting with Athletic Director Tawni Angel and Superintendent Tielle,” Acosta said in a news release from the school district. “Del Valle has a culture of excellence and wants to infuse our students with the tools needed to be successful.
I am committed and motivated to make this one of the best programs in Texas and the country. I am excited to meet our new families, players, teachers, coaches, and everyone who will help build this program into something special. We want to make Del Valle the place to watch one of the best games ever invented.”
Prior to taking-over at IMG, Acosta was the offensive coordinator at the College of St. Scholastica in Minnesota.
Acosta takes over for Charles Burton, who stepped-down after eight seasons as the school’s head coach. Burton was 29-51 with one playoff appearance.
