About “Coach of the Week” & “High School All-Star”
The Chicago Bears “Coach of the Week” program was launched in 1996 and “High School All-Star” program in 2011. The “Coach of the Week” program honors outstanding Illinois high school coaches who develop players’ football skills and knowledge, character, leadership, discipline and teamwork abilities. The nomination criteria for the “High School All-Star” program includes on-field performance, community involvement and good sportsmanship. Deserving high school coaches and players are nominated by a panel of local prep authorities and the winning player is selected each week from August 27-October 23. Since the program’s inception, the Bears have donated more than $326,500 to Illinois high schools in support of their football programs. For more information, please visit chicagobears.com/community.
Jake Brosman
On Oct. 8, Brosman and the Hampshire Whip-Purs varsity football team (5-2) won their home conference game against Huntley Red Raiders (2-5) of Huntley by a score of 15-7, making the Whip-Purs playoff eligible for the first time since 2015. After winning only six games over the last five seasons, coach Brosman found a way to motivate the players to achieve what seemed impossible and advance to the playoffs. Brosman joined Hampshire as a football coach in the summer of 2018. Previously, he was a basketball/football coach and a math teacher at Dunlap Middle School. Hampshire Whip-Purs will play at Jacobs Golden Eagles (4-3) on Friday.
Jordan Anderson
On Oct. 8, the senior running back led the Joliet Catholic (7-0) to a 56-49 non-conference game victory at Brother Rice (5-2) of Chicago to keep the Hilltoppers undefeated season alive. The second half started tied at 35-35, but, with Anderson’s contribution, the Hilltoppers put on a spectacular performance with a 21-14 run to seal the victory. Anderson had a whopping 319 yards and six touchdowns on 27 carries during the game. Anderson was also selected as Player of the Week by Daily Southtown, while the Hilltoppers ranked first in the Class 4A poll. Joliet Catholic will play at Benet Academy (3-3) on Friday.
