Three Top 25 teams saw their hopes of a possible national championship dashed this past weekend.

No. 14 Cathedral (Indiana), No. 15 St. Edward (Ohio) and No. 24 Denton Guyer (Texas) all suffered their first loses of the 2021 high school football season.

In a battle of defending state champs, Cathedral, Indiana’s 2020 5A champ, lost to No. 8 Center Grove, the state’s defending 6A champ. The 21-6 victory pushed  Center Grove’s win streak to 23 straight heading into this weekend’s opening round of the postseason.

Cathedral falls 15 spots to No. 29 in the latest High School Football America 100 powered by NFL Play Football.

In Ohio, No. 100 Archbishop Moeller took-down St. Edward in overtime. St. Ed entered the game having won seven of its eight games by double-digits. Moeller played its third straight overtime game.

St. Ed drops 12 spots this week to No. 27, while Moeller climbs 36 spots to No. 64 in the latest national rankings.

In Texas, Denton Guyer’s 38-31 loss to No. 63 Allen gives the Eagles the lead in the District 5-6A.

Allen is now ranked No. 40, while Denton Guyer falls to No. 42.

St. Ignatius (Ohio) re-enters the Top 100 at No. 90 after surprising defending Division I champ St. Xavier. The Bombers drop four places to No. 35 this week.

McCallie (Tennessee) breaks into the HSFA 100 at No. 99.
