The road to another High School Football America national championship is very straight for Mater Dei (California). With nine weeks to go until we crown our 2021 national champ on December 19, all the Monarchs have to do to win their third HSFA national title is run-the-table to a California Open Division title.

After knocking-off arch-rival Servite on Saturday, the Mater Dei is 7-0 with one regular season game left against underdog JSerra.

The big challenges ahead of the Monarchs, who won our national titles in 2017 and 2018, will come in the form of possible playoff rematches against Trinity League foes St. John Bosco (No. 3) and Servite (No. 19).

Thompson hopes are winning a national title ended Friday night when the two-time defending 7A Alabama champs lost to Hoover 24-21. The Warriors drop from No. 3 to No. 15 in the High School Football America 100 this week.

Hoover will need lots to happen for a shot at a national title. The Bucs are ranked No. 9 heading into the playoffs.

New Jersey’s Bergen Catholic is inching its way into the championship conversation. The Crusaders knocked-off No. 103 Seton Hall Prep Saturday to move-up three spots to No. 6 in the latest rankings powered by NFL Play Football.

In Texas, No. 2 Westlake and No. 5 Southlake Carroll, who played for the 6A Division I championship last year, are in good position heading into the final two weeks of the regular season. Westlake is looking for its third straight state title under legendary head coach Todd Dodge, who is retiring at the end of this season.
