Cape Elizabeth QB Caden McDuffie wins Fitzpatrick Trophy for Maine’s top high school football player

Cape Elizabeth quarterback Caden McDuffie, who led the school to its first-ever high school football state championship in 2021, is the winner of the 51st Fitzpatrick Trophy that is given to the Maine’s top high school football player. The Fitzpatrick Trophy has been honoring the state’s top player for 50 years.

McDuffie, a dual-threat QB, completed 69 of 124 passes during 2021 for 1,419 yards with 26 touchdowns and only three interceptions. He also rushed for 1,005 yards and 19 scores.

In the Class C title game, McDuffie threw five touchdown passes.

McDuffie will play college football at Louisiana Christian University.

The other finalists for the award were two-way lineman Thomas Horton of Bonny Eagle and quarterback Will Ledbetter of Windham.
