One of the top high school football coaches in the southeast is returning home. Jamey Dubose, who owns three Alabama high school football state championships, announced on Twitter Thursday that he resigned from Lowndes (Valdosta, Georgia) to return to his Alabama after the “sudden passing” of his father.

Dubose will become the head coach at Orange Beach High School near Mobile. Orange Beach has only played two years of varsity football.

A year after leading Central (Phenix City) to a 7A state title, Dubose crossed the state line to take-over Lowndes in southern Georgia. In two years with the Vikings, Dubose led the program to 20 wins against only five losses.

This past season, Lowndes advanced to the 7A state semifinals. The Vikings lost to eventual state champ Collins Hill 31-14. In 2020, Lowndes lost in the state quarterfinals to Collins Hill.

Dubose takes-over Orange Beach, which started with a 3-6 record in its first year of football. Last season, the Makos finished 9-2, losing in the first round of the 2A playoffs.

This season, Orange Beach is moving-up to Class 4A.

In addition to his state title at Central in 2018, Dubose led Prattville to two state championships.
