Lee County jumps seven spots in first in-season Georgia Top 25 high school football rankings

Lee County is No. 7 in this week’s High School Football America Georgia Top 25, powered by NFL Play Football, after opening with an impressive 26-10 win over preseason No. 3 and two-time defending 5A champ Warner Robins. The Trojans, who jump seven spots this week, were led by sophomore running back Lee County running back Ousmane Kromah.

Kromah, who ran for over 1,700 yards and 23 touchdowns as a freshman, ran for 216 yards on 20 carries.

At the top of the rankings, No. 1 Buford picked-up an impressive 38-7 win over Alabama-power Thompson in the Freedom Bowl at Milton High School. Both teams are three-time defending champs and highly-ranked in our preseason national rankings.

No. 2 North Cobb received a scare from preseason No. 16 Westlake. The Warriors, who are ranked No. 16 in America, won 21-17.

David Mbadinga’s 38 yard touchdown run with 3:28 left to play was the game-winner.

Westlake did get into the red zone, but wasn’t able to find the end zone before time ran out.

There are two new teams in the first in-season Top 25.

Blessed Trinity beat preseason No. 20 Calhoun 36-25 to enter the statewide rankings at No. 22.

Jones County enters the Top 25 for the first time since 2019 after beating preseason No. 24 Northside-Warner Robins 27-21 in the Macon Touchdown Club Kickoff Classic at Mercer University. The Greyhounds are ranked No. 25 this week.

Looking ahead, No. 8 Brookwood will face No. 9 Walton this week. Both teams are coming-off games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons, in the Corky Kell Classic. Brookwood edged Norcross 28-24 and Walton lost to preseason No. 6 Mill Creek in a game that had eight lead changes.

Two teams will travel outside the state to play state champs.

No. 11 Milton, which lost to Tennessee Division II-AA champ Lipscomb Academy 17-7, travels to Ohio to face Missouri Class 6 champ Christian Brothers College. The game will be played at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

CBC was ranked No. 77 in the nation in our preseason national rankings. Milton was No. 65.

No. 21 Woodward Academy will play three-time Tennessee Division II-AAA champ McCallie, ranked No. 52 in the nation.
