It’s been 20 years since Mainland (11-3) has been to a Florida high school football championship game. On Friday afternoon in Fort Lauderdale, the Buccaneers, ranked No. 147 in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football, will play Lake Wales (14-0) for the 3S state championship.
Mainland played in its first and only state title game in 2003. The Bucs won the state title that year.
The last time Lake Wales played for a title was in 1994. The Highlanders are 0-2 in state championship games.
