Pro Football Hall of Famer Kevin Mawae is the new head football coach at Lipscomb Academy in Tennessee. The 16-year NFL veteran replaces former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer, who resigned last year to become the head coach at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

Under Dilfer, LA won two straight Tennessee Division II-AA state titles. Last year, the Mustangs finished No. 13 in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football.

This will be Mawae’s first high school coaching job. He’s served as the Indianapolis Colts assistant coach since 2021. He’s also been an assistant with the Chicago Bears and at Arizona State.

He was introduced at the Nashville school on Tuesday.

Mawae was selected in the second round of the 1994 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. During his time with the New York Jets, he was selected to six straight Pro Bowls. The 7-time First Team All Pro finished his playing career with the Tennessee Titans.

In 2019, Mawae was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
