Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the NFL’s newly crowned MVP, and Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts will be making history in Super Bowl 57.
Sunday in Arizona, the pair will become the first pair of black quarterbacks to start a Super Bowl and it will be the first time in Super Bowl history that both QB’s will have Texas high school football roots.
Mahomes played at Whitehouse High School. Hurts played at Channelview.
Hurts played for his father Averion at Channelview. Jalen was considered a 4-star recruit during his days at the school located east of Houston.
During his senior season, Hurts had his hand in 51 touchdowns. He passed for 2,384 yards with 26 touchdowns. He ran for 1,391 yards and 25 scores.
Mahomes’ father (Pat) was a Major League pitcher. The younger Mahomes was also a solid pitching prospect. He was selected in the 37th round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Detroit Tigers.
On the gridiron, the 3-star college prospect had an outstanding senior season with 4,619 yards passing with 50 TD’s. He ran for 948 yards with 15 touchdowns.
