WCPO-TV is reporting that a lawsuit has been filed against two school districts after a high school football player suffered a serious infection from a cut that lawyers say occurred while he played a football game at Newport High School in Kentucky.
The suit claims that Brycen McWilliams, who was playing for Somerset High School, sustained a cut that became infected with staph bacteria from the artificial turf of the field during a game against Newport Central Catholic. McWilliams was hospitalized for a time.
A Penn State study has found no evidence of more staph bacteria on artificial turf compared to regular grass fields.
