Alabama-recruit Julian Sayin of Carlsbad High School in Southern California is liking competing in the Elite 11 near his hometown. The Elite 11 coaches ranked Sayin No. 1 after the first day of competition at Redondo Union High School, south of Los Angeles.

Sayin led his school to a No. 166 ranking last year in the High School Football America 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football. Carlsbad finished 10-2 behind Sayin, who completed 163 of 245 passes (66.5%) for 2,708 yards with 27 touchdowns and only four interceptions.
Sayin is one of 20 quarterbacks competing at the 25th annual quarterback competition.
Arizona’s Dylan Raiola of Pinnacle High was ranked No. 2 after Day 1. Raiola, who is considered the nation’s overall No. 1 prospect, has given his verbal to Georgia.
