Former NFL QB and Arkansas high school football coach Ryan Mallett dies in drowning accident

Our prayers go out to the family and friends of Ryan Mallett, the head football coach at White Hall High School in Arkansas. Mallett, who played quarterback in the NFL for three different teams, died in an apparent drowning accident in Destin, Florida on Tuesday.

Mallett became White Hall’s head coach in 2022 after serving two years as the defensive coordinator at Mountain Home.

The New England Patriots selected Mallett in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft. During his time with the Pats, he served as Tom Brady’s backup before being traded to the Houston Texans before the start of the 2014 regular season. He finished his pro career in 2017 with the Baltimore Ravens.

In high school, Mallett played at Texas High School in Texarkana, Texas. He was considered the No. 2 quarterback in the nation by Rivals during his senior season.
