Suit from New York high school football weight room fight settled

Wagner Falcons footballSlive.com reports that a lawsuit filed by a Staten Island, New York high school football player who had his jaw broken while breaking-up a locker room fight between his teammates has been settled out of court for $50,000.

Richard Palestri, a JV football player at Susan Wagner High School, alleged his jaw was broken in March 2012 when he tried to break-up a fight between two other players during an off-season weight-training session.  Palestri and his parents were suing the city, the school, the Board of Education and the school’s longtime coach Alan Paturzo.

Palestri’s suit claimed that Paturzo and his staff sent the boys into the workout sessions without any adult supervision.

Paturzo is the winningest high school football coach in New York Public School Athletic League history.
