High School Football America sends out its prayers to those impacted by the deadly fires on Maui. While the devastating wildfires shutdown all games involving teams from Maui, Week 1 of the 2023 season did open on other islands.

In the biggest game of the weekend, No. 2 Punahou bounced back from a 14-7 halftime deficit to beat No. 3 Mililani 21-14 Saturday night. Punahou’s defensive recorded six sacks in the victory.

Both teams hold their preseason rankings in the first in-season High School Football America Hawaii Top 10, powered by NFL Play Football.

This Friday, the Buff n’ Blue will play the first of two mainland teams when they host Long Beach Milikan from Southern California.

Kamehameha Kapalama makes the biggest move this week, jumping from No. 10 to No. 7 after beating Moanalua 51-7.
