Texas high school football fans eager for the start of the 2015 football season will get a sneak peak this weekend when the Texas 7 on 7 Championships are played in College Station.
128 teams (see below) will be split into two divisions with the Division II tournament being played on Thursday and Friday. The Division I tournament will be played Friday and Saturday. The teams qualified for the field by finishing in the top two of state qualifying tournaments that were held throughout the state.
The Division I tournament will be interesting with possible 2015 national powers like Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Katy and Southlake Carroll qualified.
Since the tournament was split into two divisions, no Division I team has been able to win more than one title. Katy Seven Lakes, which won last year’s Division I title by beating Whitehouse 42-25 in the championship game, didn’t qualify for this year’s event.
In Division II, Graham won’t be back to defend its 2013 and 2014 titles, because it was suspended from 7 on 7’s for a year after a bench-clearing incident during a qualifier in May.
