Sometimes the High School Football America rankings algorithm delivers a surprise. That’s the case this week with CBC rising to No. 1 in the final regular season rankings, powered by NFL Play Football.
The move from No. 2 to the top-spot comes after unranked Edwardsville (Illinois) handed former top dog De Smet its first loss of the season. The 29-12 loss moves the Spartans to No. 2 even though De Smet owns a 49-14 win over CBC.
The difference between the two is CBC’s strength of schedule is better than De Smet’s. The Cadets own wins over three out of state teams — Carmel (Indiana), Lipscomb Academy (Tennessee) and Warren Central (Indiana) — that at one point or another have spent time this year in our national rankings. Aside from the De Smet loss, CBC also lost to No. 135 Bryant (Arkansas).
De Smet’s only Top 300 game was against CBC.
As far as the latest rankings, Cardinal Ritter moves from No. 10 to No. 8 after knocking-off St. Louis University 52-39. After back-to-back losses to ranked teams, SLU drops to No. 9.
