Bellis Field at Maloney Stadium at Phillipsburg High School in New Jersey is home to the winningest high school football team in the Garden State — the Stateliners.
Heading into the 2015, Phillipsburg or P’Burg owns 661 wins after 110 years of high school football. Before New Jersey added playoffs, Phillipsburg was named the #1 team in the state in 1918, 1935, 1941, 1942, 1949 and 1960. The Stateliners have won seven state sectional titles — New Jersey doesn’t crown a true state champion.
One interesting thing about Phillipsburg High is that from 1982 to 1994, the Stateliners were banned from playing in the New Jersey state playoffs, because they played all of there regular season games in Pennsylvania as a part of the East Penn Conference.
Every Thanksgiving, Phillipsburg plays arch-rival from Pennsylvania in one of the best high school football rivalries in the nation. The two schools are only separated by the Delaware River.
This year will mark the 109th game between the two schools. Easton leads the all-time series by a margin of 61-42-5 Easton is second on Pennsylvania’s all-time wins list.
