Former Allen (TX) QB Kyler Murray named Gatorade Male Athlete of the Year

You could say that former Allen (Texas) quarterback Kyler Murray is one of America’s largest hardware stores.

Why?

The three-time Texas state champion quarterback, who was never lost a game in his three years as the Eagles’ starting quarterback, picked-up another piece of hardware honoring his career Tuesday night when he was named the Gatorade Male Athlete of the Year at a ceremony in Los Angeles.

Murray, who’s already enrolled at Texas A&M, beat out Gatorade National Players of the Year in baseball, basketball, cross country, soccer and track and field for the honor.

According to USA Today High School Sports, Murray said this after winning the honor — “I just want to thank my family for always being there for me. I want to thank Gatorade for this award, it’s very prestigious and I don’t take it for granted.”

This is the 30th year for the Gatorade Player of the Year program.

Murray has won numerous national honors since closing-out his high school football career, including USA Today’s Offensive Player of the Year, MaxPreps’ National Player of the Year and the 2015 National High School Coaches Association’s Senior National Football Player of the Year Award.
