Eight countries, including Team USA, are going for the gold at the International Federation of American Football Under-19 World Championships in Kuwait.
Team USA, which is made-up of 44 U.S. high school and college football players, opens pool play Monday against Mexico. Also in the U.S. pool is Germany and Japan. In the other pool are Austria, Canada, France and Kuwait. The winner of each pool will square-off July 16th in the gold medal championship game.
This is the third IFAF World championship and the first away from the United States. Team USA won the first one in Canton, Ohio in 2009, while Canada won the 2012 gold medal in Austin, Texas.
Team USA is coached by Aaron Brady, who is the head coach at Malvern Prep in suburban Philadelphia. This will be Brady’s first year at Malvern Prep after spending four seasons as the head coach at Gonzaga in Washington, D.C.
After playing Mexico, Team USA will face Germany on Thursday and Japan on Sunday.
