The National Football League‘s Tampa Bay Buccaneers are honoring Fort Pierce Central girls’ flag football head coach Nick Clements as their Week 1 Coach of the Week. Coach Clements was one of four finalists, who fans voted for on the Bucs’ team website.
Tampa Bay Bucs Coach of the Week Finalists – Week 1
David Bridge – Citrus HS – Citrus High School had a very impressive showing at the 2024 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Preseason Classic with wins over Pinellas Park and Largo, while only allowing 6 points combined.
Tom Pusateri – Countryside HS – The Countryside Lady Cougars went 2-0 in the Preseason Classic, outscoring their opponents 48-7, earning Coach Pusateri a nomination for this week.
Nick Clements – Fort Pierce Central HS – Fort Pierce Central High School’s Nick Clements has earned a nomination this week with wins over Hillsborough High School and Riverview High School at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Preseason Classic.
Tyson Ellis – Hernando HS – Hernando High School went 2-0 with wins over Seminole and Carrollwood Day School. Coach Ellis has his girls playing with high confidence ahead of their opening game on Thursday.
The Bucs select all nominees based on specific criteria:
- Have winning record, beat a longtime rival, snap a losing streak, defeat a defending champion, and/or record an amazing comeback victory.
- Show commitment to player safety by teaching the fundamentals of the game, proper techniques, concussion management practices and adherence to heat and hydration techniques.
- Display a strong rapport and have earned respect from the team’s players.
- Have developed a mutually respectful relationship with game officials by using acceptable methods for questioning and avoiding disruptive behavior.
- Be a leader in the game field by always exhibiting positive behavior.
- Be involved with outside organizations such as camps, clinics, and coaching conventions.
- Be involved with community programs.
- Developed excellent relationships with other coaches by being cooperative, considerate and being positive with game related media statements.
For being named Coach of the Week, Clements’ program receives a $2,000 grant, plus new gear from Nike, sponsor of the award.
