The Los Angeles Rams continue to grow girls flag high school football. Sunday, the National Football League team will hold its first-ever Girls Flag Spring Classic at El Camino College.
Over 44 teams and more than 525 girls flag athletes will compete in the event that brings to an end the team’s activities for Women’s History Month.
There will be several levels of competition with the largest being the 7-on-7 high school division with 24 teams and 335 athletes. The spring classic will also feature girls’ 5-on-5 flag football tournaments in the 10U, 12U, 14U and 18U divisions. Champions in each division will receive rings and a trophy. The MVPs of each division also will receive a custom Rams jersey and “MVP” chain.
In addition to the on-field competitions, there will be festivities off-the-field, including photo opportunities with Rams Cheerleaders and mascot Rampage. There will be an easter egg hunt with prizes, a vendor village, food trucks and more.
USA Football, the sport’s U.S. governing body, will provide attendees with information on upcoming clinics, enrolled tackle and flag leagues, and the pathways to play for the U.S. Flag National Team, which will compete in the Olympics in 2028.
In February 2023, the California Interscholastic Federation sanctioned girls’ flag high school football for state championships.
