As the headline says, it was fairly smooth week in the High School Football America 100 with only nine teams suffering defeats and three of those came in head-to-head Top 100 matchups. However, with that being said, there is plenty of movement within the rankings that are created with our proprietary algorithm, especially within the Top 25.
Former No. 16 Mission Viejo (California), which was still stinging from its four forfeits for using an ineligible player, was upset 21-20 by San Clemente. That loss shook-up the Top 25 teams, along with former No. 24 Good Counsel’s loss to No. 43 DeMatha (Maryland) in a big Washington Catholic Athletic Conference showdown.
The Mission Viejo and Good Counsel (Maryland) losses move Preseason Top 25 teams Grayson (Georgia) and Katy (Texas) back into the top of the poll at No. 24 and No. 25 respectively. Speaking of returning, Marietta, which has played one of the toughest schedules in the nation, returns to the national rankings at No. 100. The Blue Devils’ four losses have come against No. 3 St. John’s College High School (Washington, DC), No. 21 Rome (Georgia), No. 24 Grayson and No. 39 Good Counsel). This week, Marietta will play No. 84 Hillgrove (Georgia).
The Game of the Week this week will be in the Baltimore/DC area in the WCAC where streaking DeMatha, ranked No. 31, will play St. John’s, the No. 3 team in the HSFA 100. SJC is a perfect 7-0 after playing one of the toughest schedules in the nation. DeMatha has won six straight after losing its season opener to No. 17 St. Thomas Aquinas (Florida).
In addition to Marietta’s return to the High School Football America 100, this week’s rankings welcome back Roswell (Georgia) at No. 86 after its upset of former No. 33 Walton (Georgia). Montgomery Bell Academy (Tennessee) and Lufkin make their Top 100 debuts at No. 82 and No. 94 respectively.

*Mater Dei (California) forfeited its opening game victory against Bishop Amat (California) for self-reporting using an ineligible player. However, because the player didn’t affect the on-field outcome, it is still calculated as a victory in our algorithm.
**Mission Viejo (California) forfeited its first four victories for self-reporting using an ineligible player. However, because the player didn’t affect the on-field outcomes, the four games are still calculated as victories in our algorithm.
