Will there be a 2020 high school football season? That’s the question everyone in every state is asking in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

On Tuesday, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey had an answer, at least for her state — “We’re hopeful, but I can’t speak to specifics on that issue yet.”

You can watch the governor’s full answer below.

All schools across the state are closed through the end of the year.

Tuesday, Ivey issued a new order for her state called “Safer at Home,” which will run from May 1 through May 15 and is considered the start of Alabama’s re-opening. While the stay-at-home order will be lifted Friday, Ivey wants people to stay at home and adhere to healthy practices.

Right now, Alabama’s first date to play games is August 20.
