The Jets named Anthony Morello of Greenwich High School in Greenwich, CT as this week’s High School Coach of the Week. Coach Morello will receive a $1,000 donation to benefit the school’s football program. Along with the monetary award, Greenwich High School will receive an automatic bid to compete in the 2024 New York Jets 11-ON Tournament.
Coach Morello will be invited to attend the New York Jets vs. Houston Texans game on Sunday, December 10th, where he will be honored on-field at MetLife Stadium.
In its 28th year, the Jets High School Coach of the Week award is given to a coach in the tri-state area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school, and their student-athletes.
The Greenwich Cardinals kept their undefeated streak going with a 23-9 win over St. Joseph High School, improving to 7-0 on the season. It was the first time the Cardinals won at St. Joseph’s since 2004. Coach Morello grew up in Greenwich and attended Greenwich High School, where he earned All-FCIAC and All-State accolades, and was team captain during his senior season. He continued to play at Union College, where he was named All Liberty League from 2006-2008 and was named the team’s MVP on offense. Morello began with the Cardinal’s in 2011 as head coach of the freshman team, leading them to three consecutive undefeated seasons. He was soon promoted to the offensive line coach, followed by running game coordinator before being named head coach in 2019. In four seasons as head coach, he’s amassed a 34-8 overall record, and was the 2022 LL State Champions.

For 10 weeks during the football season the Jets and Gatorade present the High School Coach of the Week award to a coach in the tri-state area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to his community, his school and his student-athletes. Gatorade and the Jets award each winner with a $2,000 check for their high school’s football program. In addition to the weekly award, a Coach of the Year is selected at the end of the high school season. The Coach of the Year winner is awarded $4,000 and receives a Gatorade cooler cart from the Jets and Gatorade.
